// Field Notes / The Problem

The track-day data gap.

Three reasons riders stay stuck on the same lap times week after week — and why every one of them is a tooling problem, not a talent problem.

01

I don’t know what I don’t know

You’re riding on feel. Something’s slow somewhere but you can’t pinpoint it. Without data, you’re just guessing — and guessing costs seconds.

02

My phone GPS is garbage

1Hz consumer GPS, no lean angle, laggy traces. You’ve outgrown phone-based logging but can’t justify £499 for a dedicated system.

03

I can’t justify £500+ on data

Professional analysis software is priced for racing teams, not track day riders. ApexIngest works with your existing logger and starts free.

Your Data

Everything you need after a track day

Speed, lean angle, lap comparison, corner coaching, and GoPro video overlay — processed automatically with plain-English insights that tell you exactly where to focus.

Speed Analysis

GPS-derived speed. Every metre of the lap.

The u-blox M9N GPS logs Doppler-shift velocity every 100ms — more accurate than position-derived speed. No phone GPS jitter, no dropped samples. See exactly where you gain and lose time against your best lap.

Braking zones are highlighted automatically. Spot late braking, early pick-up, and the exact moment you get back on the throttle compared to your reference lap.

  • 10Hz GPS velocity — 10× more data points than phone apps
  • Doppler-shift measurement — no GPS drift error
  • Automatic braking zone detection on supported circuits

Lean Angle

±0.5° lean angle accuracy. Every corner.

The BNO085 IMU runs sensor fusion at 400Hz internally, outputting calibrated orientation quaternions. True lean angle is decomposed from yaw and pitch — compensating for acceleration forces that fool simpler implementations.

See your lean angle trace overlaid on your speed data. Identify corners where you're not committing, or where you're running out of lean before the apex.

  • 50Hz lean angle logging — smooth traces, no aliasing
  • Sensor fusion compensates for cornering G-forces
  • Left and right lean tracked independently per corner

Lap Analysis

Compare any two laps. Find the seconds.

Overlay any two laps and see exactly where time is gained or lost. Sector-by-sector delta bars make it obvious which corners are costing you — no spreadsheets required.

Use your best lap as the reference and work backwards. Found 0.5s in Sector 3? Now drill into that corner with the coaching view.

  • Overlay any two laps from any session
  • Sector-by-sector time delta breakdown
  • Speed, lean angle, and throttle on the same chart

Corner Coaching

Plain-English coaching. No data science degree required.

The analysis engine compares your corner entry, apex, and exit against your own best lap — not some idealised reference. It finds patterns you’d miss in raw data and explains them in plain English.

Start with the corners costing you the most time. Fix one thing per session. Watch the delta improve.

  • Compares every corner against your own best lap
  • Entry speed, lean, throttle, and braking point analysis
  • Actionable suggestions, not just raw numbers

Issue Detected

Late braking at Druids

You braked 12m later than your best lap. Entry speed was 8mph higher, causing a wide line through the apex and costing 0.3s on exit.

Suggestion

Try braking 1 marker earlier

Reducing entry speed by ~6mph will allow a tighter line and earlier throttle application. This is where your best lap found 0.3s in Sector 2.

Three steps. Five minutes.

01

Most data loggers give you raw numbers in desktop-only software. ApexIngest turns that same data into plain-English corner coaching, lean angle visualisation, and lap overlays — all in a modern web dashboard.

Already own an AiM, RaceBox, Starlane, or use RaceChrono? Import your existing sessions and get insights you can’t get from the logger’s own software. We support 10+ data formats. No new hardware to buy.

At £9/month for Pro, ApexIngest costs less than a single track day entry — and makes every session count.
